RAM - Every computer has it. But what is it?

Random-access memory (RAM) is a form of computer data storage. RAM is the place in a computer where the operating system, application programs, and data in current use are kept so that they can be quickly reached by the computer’s processor.

Ok now you know what it is.  Do you know what it does?

A good analogy is this.  Say your computer is a warehouse.  The truck that moves your inventory is your computer processing.  The guys that load the inventory onto the truck are your RAM.  The more guys you have, the quicker the truck gets loaded!

Basically, the more RAM your computer has, the more things it can do simultaneously.  Also, the more RAM you have, the more information that can be loaded into it, which means less access of your hard drive, and faster loading of applications and games!

Your PC will also boot (start up) faster!  Just in case you’re not sure – YES these are all things you want to happen!

How do you know if you need a RAM upgrade?  Well that’s where Chips comes in!  Bring your PC or laptop  computer to us for an upgrade evaluation.  Our certified techs will be able to tell you exactly what’s available for your unit and what’s best for your computer use!
